Abstract. The Ciliate Image Database is part of an ongoing educational cooperation of many researchers in the field of ciliate biology and was initiated at the 2003 FASEB Research Conference on Ciliate Molecular Biology held in Saxtons River, VT, in July 2003. This database plans to make images of ciliate protozoa (Domain Eucarya; Phylum Ciliophora) available for educational use. We therefore solicit contributions of images from any researchers in the field, particularly images of:

  • Unusual / underrepresented ciliates

  • Ciliate ultrastructure, e.g. through electron microscopy

  • Ciliate structure as revealed by fluorescence microscopy

In close collaboration with Ciliates in the Classroom (College of Wooster), this database is designed to make the tools and resources of the ciliate research community available to others in the public domain.

How to contribute images. All image contributors must first register by completing a brief registration form. After this, you will receive a password that will allow you to make entries to the database and to edit your entries at a later time. You may submit your image by one of two methods:

  • Include the URL where your image can be accessed; we will download the image and include it in the database
  • Send your image as a jpg file via email to the database.
